I'm a Musician, Software Developer, and Designer living in Los Angeles, California.

Background
Background

My mediums include songwriting, audio production, digital art, web/mobile development, and branding.

I'm primarily an independent developer and designer, working with brands, professionals, and creative collaborators to build purposeful, lasting products on the web and beyond. Culture, technology, discipline, curiosity, and humor are driving values that influence the work I do every day.

I make music as Toko Makai and Max Fung, writing and producing for myself and others. I was born into a musical family and basically grew up in the studio.

I've worked professionally in the software industry since 2021—mostly frontend, architecture, and web platforms for startups and tech companies.

Over the years, I've been lucky to work with thoughtful people on meaningful projects to bring creative and technical ideas to life.

Studio Makai
Studio Makai, Independent Developer
2024 - Present. Los Angeles, California

These days, I’m freelancing as a senior front end engineer and designer.

Dirac
Dirac, Lead Software Engineer
2024 - 2025. New York, New York (Remote)

Dirac, Inc. is a software company headquartered in New York, specializing in bridging the gap between design and manufacturing. Their flagship product, BuildOS, automates the creation of assembly work instructions directly from CAD files using advanced physics and geometry simulations.

I joined Dirac as a Lead Software Engineer, where I led the front-end rebuild of BuildOS. I architected their core data model that connects everything from step editing to animation sequencing, while also guiding the design and implementation of the entire UI, shaping the visuals, UX, and interaction model.

The result wasn’t just a large performance improvement; it was a powerful, technically advanced product that met the expectations of demanding enterprise customers, unlocked early sales, and positioned the company for its first major external deployment of its flagship application.

Flexe
Flexe, Software Engineer
2022 - 2024. Seattle, Washington (Remote)

Flexe is a Seattle-based logistics technology company that provides on-demand warehousing and fulfillment infrastructure for enterprise supply chains.

This was my first real role in tech. They took a chance on me, and it changed everything.

I joined as the company was scaling fast. I helped modernize the Android mobile app, with a goal to make it feel world-class. I obsessed over rhythm, loading states, and messaging. It was here that I discovered how much I care about polish, about the intersection of front-end development and design.

Alongside that, I contributed to backend services in Ruby and Kotlin, helped migrate APIs, and gained firsthand experience in how enterprise software is built and scaled.

Most of all, I got to work with some incredibly sharp and generous people who helped shape how I think, write code, and collaborate. Flexe gave me the foundation I build on every day.

Boeing
Boeing, Software Engineer
2020 - 2022. El Segundo, California

My software career started at Boeing in El Segundo. Right out of college, I found myself in the heart of a massive engineering org, where I carved out a niche building tools that tracked the production of spacecraft components. I built a full-stack tracking system that let project managers and technicians see where each part was, what tests it had passed, and when it would be ready to ship. That data used to live in spreadsheets and Post-It notes. Seeing that impact early on is what pushed me to keep going.

Freelance

Independent Work

Web/mobile development. I've partnered with startups, agencies, and enterprise teams to build websites and apps—from early MVPs to production systems. My background in-house gives me an edge in advising on design systems, software architecture, and cultivating strong engineering practices. With nearly a decade of programming experience, I help teams launch fast. Whether it's laying foundational code, crafting polished marketing sites, or scaling early-stage engineering efforts.

Songwriting and music production. I've created original music for major labels, independent artists, and licensing firms across film and television. My work spans lyrics, topline, and full production, with a genre-spanning toolkit shaped by over a decade of experience in pop, electronic, R&B, funk, soul, and hip-hop. Songs I've written and produced have been streamed by hundreds of thousands of people and have been licensed for use in popular media.

Graphic design and branding. I've delivered visual identities, logos, and marketing collateral for nonprofits, universities, and small businesses. My work balances art direction with strategic clarity to help brands express themselves meaningfully and consistently.

Thanks for stopping by. If you made it this far, please do not hesitate to reach out. I'm always down to chat.
